MA Programs and Requirements

The following degree programs are currently offered at the graduate level:

​Coursework Requirements 

Graduate students who are pursuing Master's degrees must complete 80 credit hours of coursework.

​

Thesis Requirement 

The ability to logically and clearly express oneself in writing is one of the marks of a scholar. Every undergraduate writes a Thesis of at least 60 double-spaced pages, using MLA style format, as part of the fulfillment of the M.A. degree Program.

Comprehensive Exams

Students take yearly comprehensive exams in the courses that they take during the academic year.

​​

Language Requirements

All students will take proficiency exams in English every year. All students will take proficiency exams in Swahili. Each student will be tested on 10, 000 lemmas in Swahili before to fulfill M.A. degree requirements.

Coursework Requirements 

Students who are pursuing doctoral degrees in a field must complete 80 credit hours of coursework beyond the M.A. degree. 

​

Dissertation Requirement 

The ability to logically and clearly express oneself in writing is one of the marks of a scholar. Every undergraduate writes a Thesis of at least 60 double-spaced pages, using MLA style format, as part of the fulfillment of the BA degree Program.

Comprehensive Exams

Students take yearly comprehensive exams in the course that they take during the academic year.

​It takes a minimum of 3 or 4 years to complete the Master's degree after successfully completing all requirements and writing a thesis.

​

Students in the Ph.D. program take at least 6  or 7 years to complete their degrees after obtaining the Master's degree.

​
